Douglas Alpine Review
Douglas Alpine at a glance would feel like an upgrade, but for our sleep testers, it was nothing extraordinary. With the same layers and just one more inch in height, paying an extra $200 for the Alpine could be a bad investment.
The lack of edge support and the sinking feeling of the mattress concerned us the most, while the mattress covers pills easily and will make washing a hassle. If you’re looking for a true upgrade that will be worthwhile, consider Silk & Snow S&S Mattress instead.

We reviewed Douglas Alpine on 4 key areas:
Construction
1. Douglas CoolSense® Cover
The machine-washable cover is made with cooling-infused nanofibers meant for temperature regulation.
2. 2.5” ecoLight® Cooling Gel Foam + Polar® Temperature Balancing
A layer of cooling-gel-infused memory foam meant to regulate temperature.
3. 2.5” Premium Elastex® Foam
Body-contouring memory foam.
4. 7” Motion Isolation Support Foam
Foundational support foam.
Although Douglas Alpine has constructed the mattress intending to cool and contour the body, our sleep testers found the mattress to lack the capability of doing so.
Performance
Top Sleep Picks works with third parties to test mattresses and uses public data to inform ratings across various criteria.
Firmness
IOur sleep tests indicated the Douglas Alpine to be leaning towards the medium-soft side. Even though Douglas advertises Alpine as a medium-firm mattress, the softer, sinking feel and the lack of support suggest otherwise. Some of our sleep testers experienced back and neck pain, and difficulty getting in and out of the bed.
Edge Support
Douglas Alpine lacked the edge support we were looking for, as our sleep testers experienced slipping or sliding off the bed in most cases. This prompted us to question the durability of the Alpine, suggesting this can only be a good mattress for growing children or short-term use such as vacation homes.
Motion Isolation
Our sleep tests showed some motion transfer in Douglas Alpine, suggesting you could experience disturbances to your sleep if you sleep with a partner or a pet. If uninterrupted sleep is your goal, then the Douglas Alpine may not be the mattress for you.
