    Which Mattress Should You Buy?

Based on our in-depth analysis, The Casper outperforms the Douglas Original in key criteria such as breathability, firmness, durability, and motion isolation. The Casper shows impressive support and durability, with no sagging over time. Douglas Original's comfort diminished throughout our testing, and the motion transfer was noticeable.

The Douglas Original's freshness did not last long, raising concerns over the mattress’s durability and support. There was strong off-gassing when we received the Douglas Original, which took almost two months to dissipate completely. Taking these key areas into consideration, we unanimously believe The Casper is a superior mattress.

    Comfort

    The Casper Mattress
When we compare Casper vs Douglas, The Casper offers a medium-firm feel that offers the most pressure relief, and provides ultimate comfort to many sleepers. The memory foam helps to correct posture to ensure an optimal spinal alignment, contouring to the body and adapting to each sleeping position, ensuring you get a restful sleep.
    Douglas Original Mattress
In comparison to The Casper, Douglas Original was not as comfortable. There is low bounce on this mattress, causing a sinking feeling and resulting in back pains for many. The polyester fabric of the cover loses freshness, pilling and causing static with time.

    Motion Transfer

If you share a bed with a partner or pet, feeling their movements throughout the night can be detrimental to your sleep. Some mattresses may bounce or shake when one person moves, while others can absorb the motion and isolate vibrations. To assess this, we conducted a motion isolation test by placing a vessel of coloured water on each mattress and observing its stability during various movements. The Casper excelled in absorbing motion, mitigating interruptions during sleep. When we compared The Casper mattress vs Douglas Original, we could see that Casper was a clear winner in this criteria.
    The Casper
The high-density memory foam on The Casper ensures maximum motion absorption. There was little to no movement in the water vessel while the object dropped on the mattress, indicating The Casper can effectively prevent motion transfer throughout the night.
    Douglas Original
The Douglas Original exhibited some movement in the water vessel during our tests. Based on these results, we can conclude it is not effective at absorbing motion, and those who share beds would feel their partner and pet move during the night. Therefore, for light sleepers, we do not recommend the Douglas.

    Breathability

The breathability of a mattress plays a crucial role in facilitating air circulation and dissipating heat, ultimately contributing to a cooler and more comfortable sleeping environment. The Casper features a signature AirScape technology that enhances airflow in the mattress and radically wicks away heat and moisture. Meanwhile, Douglas Original did not dissipate heat quickly, and our sleep testers reported feeling warmer and sweatier throughout the night. Sleep science has shown that a colder sleep environment leads to a more optimal and restful sleep, thus Casper is better at delivering a cool sleep surface.

    Conclusion

When comparing popular sleep brands Casper vs Douglas, our sleep testers have taken into account key evaluation criteria we feel are important to consider when investing in a mattress, including overall comfort, support, breathability, and motion transfer.

Priced at $799 CAD for a Queen mattress, the Douglas Original presents an affordable option however, the lower price is indicative of lower quality.. We have concerns with the diminishing support, low bounce, motion absorption, and cooling capabilities.

Although a higher price of  $1499 CAD for a Queen, Casper’s signature mattress delivers exceptional comfort, long-lasting durability, and support, justifying the cost. The impressive airflow and breathability keep sleepers cool and sweat-free throughout the night, while the ProSupport premium memory foam offers spinal alignment, pressure relief, and optimal motion absorption. When choosing between the Casper and the Douglas, we recommend choosing Casper.
