Douglas’s mattress has four key features:
For this Douglas review, we took a closer look at each layer of the mattress and their performance, and we were somewhat underwhelmed.
1. Douglas Cover
A polyester cover that can be easily removed to wash for convenience
2. Cooling Gel Foam
Cooling gel foam to aid in preventing overheating throughout the night.
3. Elastex® Foam
This foam mimics the supportive and responsive properties of natural latex foam.
4. Motion Isolation Support Foam
inches of support foam for motion isolation.
Performance
Top Sleep Picks works with third parties to test mattresses and uses public data to inform ratings across various criteria.
Firmness
In terms of firmness and feel, the Douglas Mattress registers at 6 out of 10, indicating a medium feel. Testers report that, over time, they felt a sinking sensation, compromising spinal alignment and overall support. Despite this, it is suitable for many sleepers.
Edge Support
The Douglas mattress doesn’t feature a dedicated anti-sag edge support mechanism, due to this, testers reported a non-supportive experience when sitting at the edge of the bed. The sidewalls are not engineered to bear your full body weight. They therefore will not effectively prevent sagging or slipping when sitting on the edge, despite the multiple layers of foam.
Motion Isolation
The Douglas mattress is below average when it comes to motion isolation – a feature highly valued by all-foam mattress enthusiasts. Its foam composition did not optimally perform to absorb vibrations, ineffectively preventing them from travelling across the mattress surface. This means that if you share your bed with a partner, children, or pets, their movements may be felt while co-sleeping. This may not be the best Douglas mattress for these situations.
