About the Mattress
The Emma Original Mattress is a soft full-foam mattress from the German-based mattress brand, Emma. The mattress tag states made in Mexico, meaning Canadians will receive a different mattress than their European counterparts, who will receive a mattress made in the UK or Ireland. The Emma Original is softer than its competitors and contains 3 layers of foam. It has a 365-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. This mattress was one of the least expensive memory foam mattresses we tested, however cheaper does not mean better. The test results show poorer performance in terms of comfort, pressure relief, edge support, and motion isolation, indicating that the quality of the Emma is not equivalent to that of market leaders like Silk & Snow or Endy. The Silk & Snow S&S Mattress is slightly lower priced but performs just as well, if not better than top competitors and the most expensive memory foam mattresses on the market. Therefore, this mattress may not be suitable for everyone, and there are better options for those on a budget. Product Details
The Emma mattress is a 3-layer memory foam mattress with a machine washable removable cover. The foam hugs the body, providing a cushioned feel when climbing onto the mattress. The mattress’s signature polyester and elastane cover is created with its honeycomb-textured top. One tester noted this triggered their trypophobia. The Emma Original mattress did not perform as well as other memory foam mattresses in our sleep tests and did not score high reviews from our testers. The cushioning feel of the mattress was not supportive enough for our sleepers, unlike the similarly-priced S&S mattress. For those who are looking for an affordable memory foam mattress in a box, we would recommend choosing S&S over Emma Original. If you would like to compare the Emma Original with its hybrid counterpart, stay tuned for our Emma Hybrid review.

Performance

Top Sleep Picks works with third parties to test mattresses and uses public data to inform ratings across various criteria.

Firmness

Test results indicate that Emma Original is a medium-soft mattress, leaning softer than other competitors. This may not be ideal for those who suffer from back pain, as it may not provide enough support to promote spinal stability or alignment.

Edge Support

The Emma Original has less than adequate edge support and will dip when you are sitting directly on the edge of the mattress. The severity of depth will depend on the individual’s weight. It should not result in anyone falling out of bed but may feel less sturdy than competitors.

Motion Isolation

The Emma Original Mattress did average compared to competitors in motion isolation tests. It is expected to feel some movement when sleeping with a partner or pet, depending on how deep of a sleeper each individual is.
